2025 Special Awards Include:

American Chemical Society

 

The Central New Mexico Section of the American Chemical Society is happy to sponsor special awards at the Northeastern New Mexico Regional Science and Engineering Fair (March 22, 2025).

The awards to be given are as follows:
1. $150 for Junior Chemistry Special Award
2. $150 for Senior Chemistry Special Award
3. $150 for a discretionary Special Award (e.g., Junior or Senior Chemistry).

In the case of a team project, the award amount will be divided evenly among the team members. We will need to receive winner names and address information for the above checks after the completion of the Fair. These awards will be given to the project(s) that best demonstrate a thorough and logical approach to the investigation and observation of a chemical phenomena or property using the principles of the scientific method. Additionally, discussions with the student should indicate a good understanding of the chemical phenomena or property and how they selected the manner of investigating and observing it. The chemical phenomena or property and/or the manner in which the student investigates and observes it need does not need to be sophisticated. The student’s approach to the project should also provide a path to further exploration. The award will be given without unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, sex, sexual preference, ancestry, or medical condition.

Oppenheimer Awards

Sponsored by the J Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee
awards in each of the following categories:
  • Physics and Astronomy
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Math or Computer Science

 

Awards will be presented to the students whose projects and interviews demonstrate originality, excellence in scientific thought, thoroughness, required skill, and clarity.

Award checks and certificates will be mailed to the winners.

Climate Change New Mexico 

 

$75 and Certificate of Recognition for each division, junior and senior (2 awards total)

Award Criteria:

Presented to the student(s) whose project demonstrates the greatest insight into climate change using science and engineering practices.

 

Award Delivery:

The Cash Award and Certificates of Recognition will be mailed afterward.
